Abstract Purpose:To report two cases of exudative age-related macular degeneration(AMD)in persons exposed to the atomic bomb in 1945.

Case 1:A 78-year-old woman who had been exposed to the atomic bomb at Nagasaki when she was 6 years old. Her corrected visual acuity was 0.3p in the right eye and 1.0 in the left. She was diagnosed with retinal angiomatous proliferation and underwent repeated intravitreal injections in the right eye. Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor injections with aflibercept, ranibizumab, and brolucizumab were performed four, seven, three times, respectively. She was diagnosed with exudative AMD in the left eye, which was treated with two intra vitreal injections of aflibercept.

Case 2:An 89-year-old woman who had been exposed to the atomic bomb at Hiroshima when she was 16 years old. Type 2 choroidal neovascularization was observed, which was treated with 13 intravitreal injections of ranibizumab in 24 months;however the exudative changes recurred repeatedly.

Conclusion:Although no direct causal relationship has been established with the atomic bomb exposure in 1945, these cases are rare manifestations of age-related macular retinal disease in atomic-bomb survivors.
