Abstract Purpose:This report aims to describe our experience of using a tear duct dilatation needle with a stopper that stops at a certain insertion position during dacryoendoscopy examination.

Subjects and Methods:From March 2021 to April 2021, 17 adult patients(37 tear points)and seven pediatric patients(ten tear points)underwent dacryoendoscopy examination at Hyogo Prefectural Amagasaki General Medical Center. The tear duct dilatation needle with stopper(stoppered needle), the tear duct dilatation needle with 1.8/5.0 mm scale(needle with scale)and the Wilder's tear duct dilatation needle was used. The stoppered needle was used in seven adults with 17 tear points and five children with seven tear points, the needle with scale was used in 8 adults with 18 tear points and two children with three tear points, and the Wilder needle was used in two adults with two tear points.

Results:With the stopper and scale, it was possible to insert the fiberscope of the dacryoendoscope with one tear point dilation. Dilatation of the tear duct was required three times with the Wilder needle.

Conclusion:In dacryoendoscopy examinations, the tear point dilatation needle with a stopper could safely provide sufficient tear point dilatation in a single procedure.
