  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We reviewed 8 cases with presumed ocular par-asitosis. All the cases were characterized by the presence of elevated fibrovascular proliferation in the peripheral fundus. Immunological examinations led to the diagnosis of infestation by Toxocara canis in 3 patients, Toxocara cati in 2, and filariasis in one.

We successfully treated 2 eyes by vitrectomy, to relieve vitreous opacity in one and tractional retinal detachment in the other. Vitrectomy was also contributary to definitive diagnosis through immunological examination of the intraocular fluid obtained during surgery.

Cases of uveitis associated with elevated fi-brovascular proliferation in the peripheral fundus should be further examined with the possibility of ocular parasitosis in mind.
