  • Look Inside

The adrenocortical function was assesed in pa-tients who had been treated with a large dose of glucocorticoids (GC) at an early stage of Harada's disease or acute optic neuritis. The rapid ACTH test was used, which entails determinations of plasma cortisol level and adrenocortical responsi-veness to ACTH. A total of 18 cases, 16 with Harada's disease and 2 with acute optic neuritis, were treated with the starting dose of about 200 mg of prednisolone equivalent of GC which was tapered in a logarithmic fashion to a physiological dose of GC in about 1 month.
