Laser-phakopuncture as a Treatment for Soft Cataracts

　医学におけるレーザーの利用はごく最近始められ，そしてその可能性の研究は最初の進歩をなしつつあるのみである。臨床的研究の最初の目標は通常はレーザー照射の熱（凝固）効果であつた。眼科学におけるレーザーの応用は現在まで眼底の病変即ち，網膜剥離，糖尿病性網膜症等に対して主として限られていた。その他の（非熱）効果はごく最近研究されており，そして臨床眼科学に於いて初めて応用されている（M．M．　Krasnov,1972）。

　現代医学の殆んど，いかなる外科的分野においても（例えば，神経外科学，皮膚科学，耳鼻咽喉科学，実質器官の外科など）発表されたデータはメスの代りにレーザービームを用いる問題に対して間違いのない関心を示している。同じことは生物学にも関係する（細胞のレーザーマイクロサージェリー）。

A new way of laser treatment for soft cata-racts is advanced ("Laser-phacopuncture"). A rupture of the lens capsure can be produced by a strong laser pulse focused on the anteriorsurface of the lens. This is followed by gradual resorption of the lens substance (in much the same manner as with a conventional discission procedure). Pigment deposits on the capsule are usually necessary to ensure sufficient absor-ption of light energy at the target point. Laser can also be employed to produce such pigmented spats. This paves the way for a subsequent laser-phacopuncture.
