診療所に多発した新型結膜炎について

An Epidemic of Unusual Conjunctivitis

緒言

　1969年6月から10月にかけ，西アフリカのガーナに結膜下出血を主症状とした奇妙な結膜炎が大流行した。ちようどアポロ11号が月から帰つた頃なので，これが持つてきたとして，アポロ病とあだ名された。

　この病気についてはじめて発表したガーナ大学眼科のChatterjee,S．^1）は，次のような特徴をあげ，流行性出血性結膜炎（epidemic hemorrha—gic conjunctivitis）と名づけた。

The author experienced a massive outbreak of a new type of acute conjunctivitis in his clinic in Tokyo mainly in the summer months, 1972. The condition was apparently similar to the epidemic hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (Chat-terjee) which proliferated in Ghana in 1969 and which reportedly broke out in Djakarta and Bali during the same period. According to the surveyof the Japanese Ophthalmologists' Society, the disease seems to have occurred throughout Japan in July and August, 1971, as its first out-break.
