  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The author reported 14 cases of massive vit-reous retraction (MVR) out of his 150 detach-ment cases. The cause of MVR were analyzed and it was detected that the majority of the cases, 9 out of 14, were iatrogenic, that is, due to unsuccessful detachment operations.

Among MVR, the author differentiated two morphologically different types. The first type had the following distinctions : 1) large wavy retinal folds (morning-glory type detachment) 2) smooth, apparently normal appearance of re-tinal surface 3) relatively high reattachment rate observed after surgical treatment.
