Focal Depth of the Human Eye as an Optical System

　昭和40年5月15日の午後，私が小児麻痺で両脚運動不能のため，佐藤邇先生，大島祐之先生，山地良一先生に，大変な御迷惑をおかけして神戸の私宅で，異例の座談会をして戴きました。実際に観察して戴きながら，多くの問題点を御指摘，御教示戴きました中から，重要と思われる事柄を取上げて，三先生の御好意に心からの謝意を捧げたいと思います。

Basic principles concerning determination of focal depth of the eye are presented to clarify the present situation of this controversial pro-blem. Exact determination of the conjugate point for the retina is essential in analyzing the focal depth of the eye, as the eye can not be said to be in focus even if full visual acu-ity is obtained. It is advocated that a pinpoint target be used for the determination of the conjuz ate point of the eye.
