Distal radius and ulna(DRU)classificationは橈尺骨遠位骨端線のみを細分化した新しい骨成熟度評価法で，非常に簡便であることに加え，客観性，再現性，信頼性に優れるとされる．日本人特発性側弯症患者207人を対象としDRU classificationと暦年齢，初潮からの時期，Risser signとの関連性を調査した．DRU classificationはRisser signと有意な相関関係があり，DRU classificationはRisser signよりも暦年齢や初潮からの時期と強い正の相関関係にあった．またDRU classificationは腸骨骨端核出現前の骨成熟度も評価可能であった．DRU classificationは本邦の特発性側弯症患者の骨成熟期の指標として有用である．
