Background:Melorheostosis is a form of sclerosing bony dysplasia that has a characteristic “dripping candle wax” appearance on radiographs, and bone scintigraphy reveals uptake in the sclerotome. We report 2 cases of melorheostosis of an upper limb.

Cases:The patient in Case 1 was a 34-year-old man. Since radiographs showed sclerotic changes in the right upper limb, and bone scintigraphy revealed uptake in the same areas, we made a diagnosis of melorheostosis. The patient in Case 2 was a 31-year-old man who complained of numbness in the fourth and fifth fingers of his left hand. Radiographs showed bony protrusion and sclerotic changes in the proximal left ulna, and bone scintigraphy revealed uptake in the same areas. We therefore made a diagnosis of melorheostosis, and resection of the bony protrusion provided symptomatic relief.
