We report a rare case of pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVS) in a hip joint. The patient was a 51-year-old woman who was admitted to our hospital for a diagnosis of elevated hip dislocation. On admission she complained of incompability of the left hip joint, and leg length discrepancy and the Trendelenburg symptom were noted. The authors planned a staged operation by the Sofue's technique reported in 1989, and they performed it as scheduled. The authors detected a villous projection preoperatively, and postoperatively it was pathologically diagnosed as pigmented villonodular synovitis of the hip joint. Satisfactory results of massive resection of the synovia and Sofue's technique were observed at the most recent follow-up examination.
