　従来の報告ではヒト星細胞が悪性化した際，fibroblast growth factor receptor 1（FGFR 1）の発現量が増加するとされている。今回，antisense digonucleotidesを用い，ヒト膠芽腫細胞であるSNB 19においてFGFR 1mRNAの発現を抑制したところ，細胞増殖能の低下を認めた。Antisense oligonucleotidesによるFGFR 1mRNA発現量の減少はreverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction（RT-PCR）Southernblot分析にて証明し，蛋白レベルでのFGFR 1発現量減少の証明にはcross-linking分析を用いた。これらの結果，ヒト膠芽腫細胞の増殖にはFGFR 1が関与しており，この発現を選択的に抑制することで，現在予後不良とされる膠芽腫に対する1つの治療方法となる可能性が示唆された。

　Although normal human astrocytes rarely express fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR 1) mRNA, expression of FGFR 1 mRNA in astrocytomas increases as malignancy progresses. This result suggests that FGFR 1 can be one of important factors for glioblastoma cell growth.

　In our study, specific antisense oligonucleotides for FGFR 1 mRNA inhibited cell growth of SNB 19, human glioblastoma cell line, while sense oligonucleotides showed no cell reduction. And Southern blot analysis demonstrated decreased expression of FGFR. 1 mRNA in only antisense group.
