  • Look Inside

Choroid plexus papilloma is a tumor of low in-cidence among primary tumors of the central ner-vous system and those found in bilateral lateral ventricles simultanously are extremely rare.

A male young child, 5-months-old, with bilaterally symmetric choroid plexus papillomata of bilateral ventricles, was reported.

The case was born as a normal delivery and had had no pathologic finding in infancy except for a somewhat enlarged head (35 cm in circumference). At 3 months of age, he was diagnosed as a hydro-cephalus.

The case was admitted in our clinic on Sept. 12, 1970.

Pathological findings were suture separation, open-ed anterior fontanelle, 230mmH2O of C. S. F. pres-sure, 154 mg/dl of protein content of C. S. F. and a communicating internal hydrocephalus. But nei-ther neurological disturbance nor mental retardation could be found.

Pneumoventriculography discovered symmetrical tumors in bilateral lateral ventricles.

Gamma-encephalography and carotid angiography showed small vascularized mass lesion at the site of the bilateral choroid plexus.

Surgical removal of the tumor was made of the right side.

Histological examination revealed a non-malignant choroid plexus papilloma.

At one month after the first operation, a Ventri-culoatrial shunt was performed.

The patient was discharged with fair improved symptom and about 6 months after the 2nd opera-tion he seemed to be normal in mental and somatic development.

Clinical characteristics of choroid plexus papilloma and its neurological examination (X-ray cranio-graphy, pneumoventriculography, cerebral angio-graphy, and Gammaencephalography were evaluated and discussed.
