  • Look Inside

Iodoventriculography was performed by us in 157 cases during a period of 9 years. Its diagnostic value and its side effects were studied statistically in these cases. In 62% of the cases it contributed decisively to reaching final diagnosis and in 34% of the cases it'contributed confirmatively to reaching final diagno-sis. Thus it was useful for getting final diagnosis in 96% of the cases. It was of particular diagnosticvalue in midline and posterior fossa lesions as has been reported by various authors. Misdiagnoses in 7 cases were analyzed and it seemed that most of these errors should have been avoided by sufficient training of the examiner. There were 2 fatal cases, both of which were hydrocephalic infants and in which ventricular drainage following Moljodol (Li-piodol) injection worked poorly. Myodil ventriculo-graphy, combined with postoperative ventricular dr-ainage with a sufficiently thick drain, is a fairly safe procedure and side effects such as fever and headache are mostly transient. It is far safer than immediate exploratory craniotomy without this procedure.
