  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Case 1. Forty-seven-year old male, farmer:

History: He suffered paratyphus C at the age of 29. Then he was attacked by tertian fever. After that he had continual spasms like tics and sometimes tonic cramps on the left cheek and lips in his waking hours, and these became worse and more frequent as he grew older. These attacks can not be increased or controlled intentionally or by emotion. Pa-ralleling with these facial spasms, there ap-pear multiple foci always from the right hemisphere on the electro-encephalogram. Ho-wever, once there appeared rhythmic positive pikes from the left hemisphere. In the en-cephalogram there can be observed pyknosisin a portion of the brain.

Recently he has an occasional dyspnea at night accompanied by a rapid decrease in the power of concentration, but up to the present he has never had an attack of loss of consci-ousness.

Case 2. A house-wife, 73 years old:

From about 26 years previously she began to have attacks of spasms like tics and tonic cramps spontaneously under the eye lid, cheek and lip on the right side of the face. These increased in intensity and frequency with the advance in age.
