In this research, we aimed to conduct a follow-up survey examining how the situation surrounding mental health literacy has changed in the decade since the publication of “Australia-Japan Survey of Mental Health Literacy” (Fiscal 2003-2005 Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Grant-in-aid for Scientific Research) and to compare the results of these with the original research. The study's methodology consisted of online surveys. The main results can be summarized as follows. (1) Around 50% of respondents had a correct awareness of the hypothetical case studies for both depression and schizophrenia. (2) Likewise, around 50% of respondents acknowledged the usefulness of informal support from friends, family members and similar sources. (3) Finally, 50% of respondents believed that individual factors are thought to be behind certain people's susceptibility to psychiatric disorders, such as being of a nervous disposition or having weaknesses as an individual. In the future, we intend to continue our research in this field by considering further improvements to educational and awareness-raising activities for maintaining and promoting mental health in society as a whole.
