Metacognitive training (MCT) is one of the techniques used in cognitive behavior therapy for patients with schizophrenia. The aim of this study was to examine the usability of the Japanese version of MCT (MCT-J) in standard Japanese day care services. Our results revealed that MCT-J was interesting for participants, reduced suspiciousness, and was effective in conjunction with information-gathering strategies for managing stress. Further, we observed that the conditions of few participants deteriorated with the use of MCT-J. These results suggest the usability of MCT-J is useful for the patients with schizophrenia in standard Japanese day care services. More studies need to be undertaken on the feasibility and effectiveness of MCT-J according to the manual provided by MCT team (www.uke.de) , estimated through proper psychological assessments.
