We developed a Japanese version of the Hamilton Program for Schizophrenia Voices Questionnaire (HPSVQ), which is a self-report measure of the severity of verbal auditory hallucinations. Our survey included 33 subjects with schizophrenia from psychiatric facilities at two places. Results indicated the high internal reliability of the HPSVQ (α=.73). Its external validity was confirmed by the positive correlation (r=.393) between the HPSVQ and hallucination scale (P3) of the PANSS. The HPSVQ has simple statements that are easy to understand and respond to even by people with severe auditory hallucinations and moderate disability of “insight of disease”. This questionnaire is greatly beneficial in clinical settings and will be widely used in clinical practice and research in Japan.
