The relationship of coronary artery disease (CAD) to with plasma lipids, lipoproteins and apolipoproteins was studied in 91 men who underwent coronary angio-graphy. In univariate analyses, the severity of CAD correlated significantly and positively with LDL and apo B/apo A-I, and negatively with apo A-I and HDL-C/TC. When multivariate regression analysis was used, apo A-I and LDL retained their significant association with coronary heart disease. It is concluded that both apo A-I and LDL are strongly and independently associated with the prevalence of coronary heart disease, whereas the level of HDL-C makes no statistically signi-ficant independent contribution.
