  • Look Inside

Deliberate hyperventilation is commonly ap-plied during anesthesia in the hope of poten-tiating the action of anesthetic agents. This study was to examine the effects of hyper-ventilation during nitrous oxide-oxygen anesthesia with and without halothane on human cerebralmetabolism by chemically analyzing the cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF). The first experiment cor-related the lactate, pyruvate, and Po2, in CSF with the somatosensory evoked responses (EVR) on EEG. In addition, a comparison of cerebral oxygenation and metabolism was made between N2O-O2 anesthesia and N2O-O2-halothane anes-thesia.
