Recently, Japanese Classification of Gastric Carcinoma was revised for the 14th edition. To clarify the exact situation for application of the new group classification in the practice of routine diagnosis of biopsied gastric specimens, we report here the detailed diagnostic profile of the examples diagnosed as“Group 2”according to the latest 14th edition of the Japanese Classification. Over a period of six months, 111 cases were diagnosed as Group 2, among 18,991 cases of stomach biopsy. Of these 111 Group 2 lesions, 44 cases underwent follow up and re-biopsy, and neoplasia was found in 10 cases(2 cases adenoma and 8 cases carcinoma). Results of the current study suggest that, for lesions diagnosed as“Group 2”in the initial biopsy, close follow up and re-biopsy are mandatory.
