The double contrast examination of the stomach, now being extensively used in Japan, has prerequisites and limitation, and to make up for these shortcomings, the value of compression study should be emphasized. But, some problems exist in performing the compression study. The first one is that adequate compression in moderately filled stomach is required to get a fine radiographic detail by this method. The second problem is that compression film is apt to be out of the focus of a lesion, even if compression is applied to the entire stomach.

The standpoint of x-ray diagnosis of the stomach has been based on the film-diagnosis, because there is a certain limitation in fluoroscopically visible lesions. However, marked development of x-ray television apparatus has made it possible to detect smaller lesions at fluoroscopy than those detected at the conventional fluoroscopy in the dark room. In this regard, we are obliged to admit that there have been much fruitless efforts in the x-ray diagnosis of the stomach and that the merit of x-ray television apparatus should be evaluated at the present time. It may be possible for us to use more convenient apparatus, and the compression study will become effective examination method.

In taking those mentioned above into consideration practice of the compression study is described by presenting a case of Type Ⅱc on the greater curvature. The essentials of compression study can not be changed, whatever development would be made in the x-ray television apparatus in future.
