 Chiefly clinical analysis has been made of 45 patients with ischemic colitis.

 (1) Transient type accounted for 68.9 per cent of them. Stricture type was seen in eight patients; gangrene type in two.

 (2) Most of the lesions were seen in the left side of the colon, especially sigmoid and descending colon.

 (3) The age of the patients varied from fifties to sixties, the mean age being 58.0 years. There was no sex difference.

 (4) Complications that could possibly have influenced the occurrence of this disease were seen in 23 patients (48.9 per cent).

 (5) Chief symptoms of this disease were sudden onset of abdominal pain, diarrhea or melena.

 (6) Characteristic features of this disease in barium enema examination are thumb printing, local spasm and sacculation.

 (7) Colonoscopically, characteristics of this disease are either longitudinal ulcer or erosions.
