An 87-year-old woman was admitted to our institute, for evaluation of a small intestinal tumor detected by abdominal ultrasonography. Small bowel radiography and peroral double-balloon endoscopy revealed a circumferential lesion with nodular surface in the jejunum. The biopsy specimen from this tumor contained tubulo-villous adenoma. Histological examination of the resected small intestine revealed the tumor in the jejunum to be a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma invading the muscularis propria, accompanied with adenomatous component with various degrees of dysplasia. Our case suggests that nodular aggregating lesions occur in the small intestine and that the adenoma-carcinoma sequence is one of the routes for the development of small intestinal cancers.
