 Background:The purpose of the study was to investigate the accuracy of correction of tibial deformities with the Taylor Spatial Frame (TSF).

 Methods:We retrospectively reviewed 65 cases of tibial deformities treated by percutaneous osteotomy and gradual correction with the TSF. There were 31 congenital deformities, 21 traumatic deformities, and 13 developmental deformities. The final results were compared with the preoperative goal of the correction. One-dimensional deformity correction included cases with a leg lengthening procedure only, without any other axial deformity correction. Two-dimensional deformity correction included cases with a leg lengthening procedure and additional axial deformity correction in one plane. Three-dimensional deformity correction included cases with a leg lengthening procedure and additional axial deformity correction in two planes. Four-dimensional deformity correction included cases with a leg lengthening procedure and additional axial deformity correction in three planes. According to the treated count of dimensions, we differentiated four types of deformity corrections. The results were graded into four groups based on the persisting axial deviation after removing the frame.

 Results:The goal of the deformity correction was achieved in 92% of the cases (in one dimension:100%;in two dimensions:100%;in three dimensions:88%;and in four dimensions:80%). Use of the TSF enabled accurate deformity correction that was unrelated to the number of planes in which an attempt was made to correct the deformity.

 Conclusion:The TSF allowed precise simultaneous multiplanar deformity corrections.
