要旨　消化器内視鏡の発達の歴史的過程における，新しい世代の内視鏡の登場として，電子スコープの誕生の意義を考察した．電子スコープの数ある特性の中で，高解像力，高画質の画像を重視する立場から，TV-endoscopeによる胃病変の微細診断能について検討した．本内視鏡はまだprototypeのものであるため，操作性に改良すべき点があるが，その画像は極めて鮮明で，胃小窩レベルの粘膜表面微細構造を観察することが可能である．電子スコープによる内視鏡診断は，病変の肉眼形態を全体像として把握するばかりでなく，胃小区から胃小窩に至る表面微細構造の識別に基づく，鑑別診断となるであろう．また，電子スコープの応用として期待される種々の画像処理や画像解析も，取り込まれる画像の精度によって左右されるであろう．

　The significance of the emergence of electronic endoscope, representing the new generation endoscopy, was discussed from the standpoint of historical development of the gastrointestinal endoscopy. Among a wide variety of the characteristics electronic endoscope holds, high resolution and its ability in diagnosing fine structures of gastric lesions by TV-endoscope were picked up for the discussion here.

　This modality of endoscopy, though still prototypic and yet to be improved, affords very high resolution and enables us to observe fine mucosal structures at the gastric pits level.

　Consequently, it is almost certain that it will expand the ability of endoscopic diagnosis from the one based on gross findings to the one based on fine surface structures of gastric areas and pits.

　Various image processing as well as image analysis, important results of the application of electronic endoscope, will largely depend on the resolution of image itself.
