The Japan Society of Pain Clinicians(JSPC)was established in 1969 as the Japan Pain Clinic Study Group. At the latter’s 1985 annual meeting, the meetings began to be conducted as the Annual Meeting of the JSPC. As of the 57th meeting this year, these annual conferences have been held for over 50 years. The number of JSPC members was 4,738 in May 2023, and more than 90% of the members are anesthesiologists. Over 1,620 specialist physicians are members. A branch organization was established in June 2020, and branch academic meetings have been held nationwide since then. An electoral system based on the branch organizations was also introduced in 2020 as a reform of the councilor system, and councilor elections have been held once every two years to date. In order to clarify our position as an academic society, we actively publish guidelines, practical guides, and statements, and we aim to establish a scientific standard treatment. We participated in the Union of Pain-related Associations in Japan, which was launched in October 2020 with the aim of forming a federation of academic societies that conduct pain treatment and research, promoting exchanges among medical professionals and researchers, and collaborating with international research institutes.
