はじめに

　重瞼術は形成外科手術・美容外科手術において頻度の高いものの1つであるが，患者の希望に沿う重瞼術を行うためには眼瞼の解剖ならびに開瞼・閉瞼に伴う眼瞼の動きのメカニズム，その形態や重瞼の幅に影響を与える因子に関しての完全な理解が必須である。

　Double eyelid surgery is one of the most frequently performed procedures in plastic and cosmetic surgery. However, to perform double eyelid surgery that meets each patientʼs requirements, a thorough understanding of eyelid anatomy, the mechanisms of eyelid movement during opening and closing, and the factors influencing its morphology and double eyelid width is essential.

　This article discusses the clinical anatomy, eyelid movements, the factors affecting single and double eyelid surgeries (including the double eyelid height) and the epidemiology with which plastic surgeons should be completely familiar when performing double eyelid surgery. In addition, the double eyelid height is determined by numerous factors, and understanding each factor based on its anatomical rationale leads to better surgical outcomes.
