Curved short stemは，大腿骨遠位部の骨温存および後方軟部組織の温存を可能とするstemである。若年者へ人工股関節全置換術（total hip arthroplasty；THA）の適応が拡大されるなか，大腿骨近位での骨質がよい症例においては骨および軟部組織温存といった観点から有用であると考えられる。THAアプローチの概念が変化し，筋腱温存による低侵襲アプローチが広まるなか，さまざまなcurved short stemが開発されてきた。本稿ではcurved short stemの歴史と変遷について概説する。
