The purpose of this study is to discuss factors contributing to the re-acquisition of cooking skills in hemiplegic women through the analysis of cooking history. We interviewed two female hemiplegic women about their cooking history dating back to their childhood, and analyzed the data about the role cooking played throughout their life history. These results indicate that the factors of re-acquisition of cooking skills that were common to both patients were role consciousness based on family interactions. On the other hand, individual factors were a sense of values, the degree of expectation about cooking from the family and an occupational history related to cooking. These results suggest that the factors of re-acquisition of cooking skills in the hemiplegic women have been affected by not only the expectation from the family to cook, and the social backgrounds as women, but also the individual meaning of cooking.
