At a rehabilitation center for the elderly, an occupational therapist provided an older elderly client, who had Parkinson's disease, with an occupational role, wherein the client taught the therapist to recite a Chinese-poem. Over a period of about three months, the client and the therapist built up a relationship of a teacher and a student and were focusing on the client's aim of teaching. As a result, the client reacquired the occupational role. In addition, the client said, "I might be able to move in the near future. But, I want to teach while I can still move," and he regarded the role, teaching the recitation of Chinese-poems, as one of the great loves of his life. Through this client, a program of occupational role reacquisition for the older elderly clients seems to be important for occupational therapists.
