This study is explores how post-stroke survivors develop their occupations and occupational performance. We interviewed 9 subjects (5 males and 4 females) who were outpatients or users of day-care services after stroke about their experiences in resuming occupation. The age of participants ranged from their 40s to 80s. Data was analyzed using the grounded theory approach. Five categories and 10 subcategories emerged. The five categories were “restructuring life through occupation”, “experiencing well-being”, “increasing will and self-efficacy”, “opening toward the future”, and “expanding occupation and challenge”. The occupations participants resumed were done in adaptive ways to restructure their lives and they produced new challenges.
