This study aimed to clarify the process by which patients with stroke in convalescent rehabilitation wards “feel a subjective sense of recovery” by conducting interviews and an analysis using a trajectory equifinality approach. After the disease onset, the participants'behavior and awareness changed because of the influence of the ward environment and interactions with medical professionals and families. The participants exhibited paths that led to the equifinality point (EFP) of “feeling a subjective sense of recovery” multiple times. Afterwards, the EFP shifted to the second EFP of a new concept of “imagining a new life at home.” These results suggested the importance of multiple individuals, including families, interacting with patients to aid in “feeling a sense of recovery,” while considering and supporting that the patients gradually shift their attention to having new lives at home.
