I was a thirty-nine year old Cardiac Anesthesiologist when the intervention happened. In the space of twenty-four hours I went from being a respected professional to a patient in the lock down unit of a well-known addiction and rehabilitation hospital. I knew it was coming and was actually relieved that it had happened. I had lost hope that I might get better on my own.
