新生児の血液検査データに対しては，新生児に特異的な病態生理の理解に基づいた解釈が必要である．ヘモグロビンの大部分がHbFであり，酸素解離曲線が左方移動している．赤血球が大きく，白血球数の正常値は日齢により異なる．早産児では末梢血中に未熟な白血球と有核赤血球が観察される．蛋白合成能を反映するアルブミン濃度は低く，解毒能を反映するビリルビン濃度は高い．生理的な状態では血中のHp，IgM，IgA，アミラーゼは極端な低値である．血液型の判定は表試験のみから行う．交差試験では，経胎盤的に母体から移行した同種抗体の影響を想定する．

Assessment of blood sample analysis in neonatal medicine should be carried out with an understanding of the physiological adaptation process of newborn infants.　In neonates, hemoglobin is mostly HbF, the oxygenation dissociation curve shows a left shift.　Mean corpuscular volume, white blood cell count and levels of various serum markers are quite different from those of adults.　Especially, levels of Hp, IgM, IgA and amylase are very low in neonatal sera.　In the immunological tests including the cross-match test, alloimmune antibodies via the placenta interfere with the examinations.
