  • Look Inside

A case of Hunt syndrome associated with paralysis of the left VIIth, IXth and Xth cranial nerves is reported.

The patient was a 55-year-old male who complained of left auricular pain, dysphagia and rhinolaria aperta. Physical examinations revealed auricular herpetic vesicles, peripheral facial palsy, paralysis of the soft palate and left laryngeal paralysis. Impairment of the hearing was not associated. Lymphocytosis was observed in cerebrospinal fluid. The patient gradually improved for all paralysis but dysphonia. It was thought that herpes zoster oticus might have vagoglossopharyngeal origin.
