Over the past several decades, advances in our understanding of neurosurgical anesthesia have taken place at an unprecedented rate. One of the major reasons for this is the emphasis placed on the clinical application of the basic physiologic and pharmacologic principles relevant to neurosurgical anesthesia.
The physiologic changes and pharmacologic manipulations which occur in patients undergoing general anesthesia can have profound effects upon cerebral bleed flow and cerebral metabolism.
