Experimental study of steroid myopathy

まえがき

　ステロイド・ミオパチーは，グルココルチコイドの治療によって起こる重大な副作用の一つであり，一種の医原病である。本症はグルココルチコイドの過剰分泌状態であるクッシング症候群の際の筋脱力・筋萎縮と本質的に同様な機序で起こると考えられている。

　臨床的には，下肢近位筋より徐々に始まる筋脱力・筋萎縮が上肢近位筋・下肢および上肢遠位筋・頸筋・躯幹筋・顔面筋と全身に広がるが，外眼筋・咽頭筋・括約筋などは侵されることはまれで通常下肢近位筋の障害が最も強い。また，グルココルチコイドの休薬または他の種類のステロイドに換えることにより障害が軽快してくることが通常であるが，これらの特別な処置をせずにいると進行性である。

Steroid myopathy is one of the most undesirable side effects of steroids which may be encountered whenever steroid therapy is initiated. The bio-chemical mechanism of this myopathy is not fully elucidated.

Experimental myopathy was induced in rabbits by daily injections of triamcinolone acetonide with doses of 10 mg/Kg (40 mg/ml solution) for 7 and 14 days. The former was called the 7 day group and the latter the 14 day group in this article.
