  • Look Inside

The cerebellum has been traditionally considered as a part of motor control system. However, recent findings in anatomical, neuropsychological, electrophysiological, and neuroimaging studies provided ample evidence for significant contributions of the cerebellum on higher cognition such as attention, memory, and language.

Among three subregions of the cerebellum, the neocerebellum is the largest structure, which seems to be critically involved in cognitive function. This structure has substantial neural outputs to prefrontal cortex via thalamic nuclei in addition to motor and premotor cortices.
