　都立府中病院泌尿器科での腎細胞癌患者（新患）数は1991年以降著明な増加を示した。この時期以前の症例37例と以後の症例49例とについて癌発見の契機となった初発症状や診断法について検討した。その結果後期では検診やドックで，あるいは無関連の他疾患検査中に偶然に発見された初期癌症例が増加していることがみられ，これには画像診断特に超音波診断が関連していることが認められた。初期の腎細胞癌の治療成績は良好であり，超音波による腎検査は他腎疾患を含めて考えても泌尿器科外来検査としてより重要視する必要があると思われる。

The number of patients with renal cell carcinoma at Tokyo Metropolitan Hospital of Fuchu have increased since 1991. 37 cases during 1981-1990 were compared with 49 cases during 1991-1994 on the initial symptoms and diagnostic methods which led to the detection of the renal cell carcinoma. The cases discovered incidentally at routine health examinations or during examinations for unrelated diseases increased significantly in the latter period. Ultrasound scans and CT were main methods for discovery of these tumors.
