  • Look Inside

The evaluation of the facial masks made for preventing inhalation of Japanese cedar pollens was undertaken in three consecutive springs by using dust collectors.

Comparing with the inhaled pollens in a dust collector without the mask (100%), eleven types of the mask against pollen were all remarkablly reduced the number of inhaled pollens between 6.3 and 20.5%, but two types of the mask for ordinary use reduced them only to 63.6 and 38.0%. Every mask against pollen was significantly more effec-tive for preventing inhalation of pollens than ordi-nary facial masks. Moist gauze inserted behind the mask slightly increased the efficacy of the masks against pollen.
