Large lingual vascular malformations are not resectable because they impair function, and laser treatment is extensive, which raises concerns regarding tongue hardening.

In this study, a 52-year-old woman was initially treated for lingual vascular malformation. However, it suddenly grew in size, causing symptoms, such as difficulty speaking and eating. Based on clinical findings and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), the vascular malformation occupying two-thirds of the tongue was determined to be a combination of venous and lymphatic malformations. This effect was significantly reduced by combining the Kampo medicines keishibukuryogankayokuinin and eppikajyutsuto.
