  • Look Inside

A 74-year-old man complained of a painless mass around the left upper lip. This mass presented with the charactristic histological pattern com-posed of cords and ducts of uniform epithelium and was diagnosed as canalicular type of mono-morphic adenoma within tubular adenoma, a very rare salivary gland tumor that has infrequently been reported in the literature. This canalicular type of monomorphic adenoma of the minor salivary gland origin has never been reported in Japan.

Histological study revealed that this tumor was originated in the duct of the minor salivary gland and there was no association with pleomorphic adenoma.

Histological differentiation between malignant tumor, for example, adenoid cystic carcinoma and benign tumor is very important, so early extirpa-tion is necessary when it is small and localized tumor.
