Abstract Purpose:To report two cases who showed recurrence of amblyopia after discontinued wearing of eyeglasses for anisometropic hypermetropia.

Cases:Both were boys aged 4 and 6 years respectively. Both complained of unilateral poor visual acuity. One case showed esotropia and hypermetropia in the right eye. Visual acuity improved from 0.1 to 1.0 after pleoptis and wearing of eyeglasses for 7 years. He failed to wear eyeglasses for 6 months, after which visual acuity decreased to 0.4. Prescription of new eyeglasses was followed by improved visual acuity to 0.8. The other case had corrected visual acuity of 0.1 in the right eye and was diagnosed with esotropia and hypermetropia. Pleoptics and wearing of eyeglasses for 2 years resulted in visual acuity of 1.0. Discontinued wearing of eyeglasses for one year was followed by impaired visual acuity to 0.4. Prescription of new eyeglasses resulted in improved visual acuity to 1.0.

Conclusion:These cases illustrate that anisometropic amblyopia may recur after successful pleoptics and wearing of eyeglasses. Prolonged follow-up is needed in such cases.
