  • Look Inside

A 61-year-old male presented with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in the superior quadrant of his left eye. Two weeks after apparently successful sur-gery using local silicon rubber exoplant and cryo-application, numerous small areas of serous detach-ment of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) be-came manifest in the fundus area where the retinal detachment was initially present. Optic disc edema developed 9 weeks after surgery. These fundus lesions subsided leaving no sequealae 7 months postoperative-ly.

Fluorescein angiographic findings seemed to indi-cate that the serous detachment of the RPE resulted from serous leakage from the choriocapillaris. The disc edema seemed to have resulted from the hyperpermiability of the racemose, superficial disc capillaries. The disc and RPE lesions appeared to be related with the surgical manipulation in the pre-disposed eye.
