I．はじめに

　1963年Shy et al．^1）は先天性，非進行性のミオパチー症状を示した4歳の少女の骨格筋biopsy標本において，従来文献に記載されたことのない異常な杆状または糸状の小体--rod-like struc—tures （以下rodsと省略する）--が多数，筋線維内に存在することを発見した。電子顕微鏡で観察すると，このrodsは長軸に垂直方向に約145Åの周期性を持つて整然と配列するfilamentから成り立つていることが認められ，rodsがtropomyosinなどに似た一種の筋収縮蛋白を含有していることが推論された。Shy et al．はこのような臨床的には先天性，非進行性ミオパチー症状を示し，筋線維にrodsが見られる疾患を新しい一つの独立した疾患であるとして，これをnemaline myopathy （糸状筋症）と名づけた。その後，nemaline myopathyの報告があいつぎ^2）〜9），またAfifi et al．^5），Price et al．^6）の研究によつてrodsが筋線維のZ線が局所的に異常な肥厚増殖を起こすことによつて形成されたものであることが明らかになつた。

Rod-like structures, which have been consi-dered to be characteristic of nemaline myopa-thy, were found in muscle fibers of apparently normal extraocular muscles from 61-year-old and 56-year-old males. The rod-like structures were of anomalous expansion or broadening of Z-line, forming rod or fusiform shape. Within the rods were observed longitudinal and trans-verse striations. The former consisted of fila-ments arranged with a longitudinal periodicity of 100Å and the latter were composed of fila-ments with a transverse periodicity of 200Å.
