The central scotometer was devised utilizing the color confusion resulting from acquired anomalous color vision.

The central scotometer has six plates :

Plate 1 and 2 for Retinitis centralis, plate 3 and 4 for old Retinitis centralis and Degeneratio maculae luteae, plate 5 and 6 forNeuritis axialis chronicum.

To use these plates clinically :

Occluding the good eye, the plate is held at, 25cm at right angles to the visual axis. The patient is asked to fixate the center spot. The patient holds a glass rod with which he indicates the area in which he can not see the spots.
