高齢者における扁平足は，主として後脛骨筋腱機能不全が原因で起こり，変形が進行すると内側の距骨および舟状骨が接地しての痛みや外果と踵骨の衝突痛が出現し，歩行障害を呈する．この高齢者の進行した扁平足は，ほとんどの場合が非可撓性の変形で，治療は手術療法が適応となる．ここでは術前症例や手術療法を希望しない高齢者に対する外来診療においてできる保存療法とそのコツに重点を置いて説明する．
