We report a case of acute neck pain caused by calcium deposition in the vicinity of the atlas. The patient was a 61-year-old woman who came to our clinic with acute neck pain. A CT scan demonstrated isolated a calcium deposit in the spinal canal at the C1 level. The calcium deposit had a teardrop shape and measured 10mm×5mm. The symptom resolved in response to conservative therapy with oral NSAID. The calcified mass vanished four months later. Pseudogout-related disease shoud be included in the differential diagnosis of acute neck pain.
