  • Look Inside

According to By the suggestion of Dr. Ch. Araki, partial resection of the pancreas (cau-dal 3/5 of the entire organ) was attempted as a cure for idiopathic epilepsy in 27 cases. The observation during 6-18 months after the operation gave the following results.

1) The operation was effectual in alleviating epileptic fits in 66.7% of our cases, the result being better in childhood.

2) Postoperative hyperglycemia was usually moderate and returned to the normal level mostly 2-3 weeks after the operation, but in only one case persisting diabetes mellitus resulted. The therapeutic effect seemed be better in those cases where postoperative hyperglycemia lasted longer.

3) In most cases after the operation, eosin-ophiles in blood decreased for a long time, espesially so, when hyperglycemia was prono-unced arid of longer duration.

4) There may be some relation between. the operative effect and the change in spermine content of serum.
